Stage 5: Sao Francisco – Diamantina

Road connection: 223.57 km – Selective Section: 335.98 km – Road connection: 85.89 km – Total: 645.44 km

The first part of the marathon stage, which took the 20 SSV competitors from Sao Francisco to Diamantina, is the longest of the Dos Sertoes Rally with 645 km total. The ground was also one of the most difficult: Lots of trial like parts, undulating, dangerous ridges… Diamantina is beautiful and is the home of many monasteries that are a testament of the passage of Portugal in the region.

At the arrival of the marathon stage, there is no service assistance. Only a refueling is authorized and drivers have two hours to check their machines.

Celio Vinicius Oliveira / Pipo Mirone N216 – 4th in 5h35’24 – 11th overall, 8h55’37 from the winner: “Beautiful stage, hard but interesting and we are 4th today, and very happy about of performance. I am getting to know the machine better and better and we did not have any technical problems. Once we arrived to the bivouac, Pipo, who trained before the race, had checked out Polaris RZR900XT+30.”

Leandro Torres / Idali Bosse N208 – in 6h00’54 – 6th overall, 1h20’29 from the winner:I am quite happy to arrive to the bivouac. What a difficult and long day! There were so many stones and dangerous ridges. We lost 5 minutes because we had to change a tire and then, in the middle of the selective section, the oil pressure light turned on. We were careful and we able to get to the bivouac in DIamantina, and then, performed our check!”

Carlos Ambrosio / Carlos Eduardo Piacentini Sachs (Cadu) N204 – 17th in 17h35’00 – 17th overall, 20h45’17 from the winner: “The day before, our assistance service was able to fix our RZR and we took the start. Unfortunately, at km 30 of the selective section, I thought we broke a belt, but there was an oil leak and then I understood it was the box. We had to wait for our assistance and it will be repaired tonight…”
