Stage 11: La Rioja – San Juan (Argentina)

Special Stage: 431 km – Road connection: 281 km – Total: 712 km

 

The Dakar continues its way to the finish line, this time with Stage 11 that joins San Juan, a region recognized by its high temperatures. The special stage took place again under very hot weather, in a complicated terrain with fesh-fesh and also a fast track on stones.

 

In spite of the difficulties, the Polaris Xtremeplus team arrived to the bivouac located at the racetrack between the mountains, all together before other teams.

 

Mao Rujin/Ka Chun Yu N.394: “Today, it was a very long day with sand, fesh-fesh, a river crossing to finish with two fords! It was physically demanding, but this time, I didn´t stop to rest. I only asked for cold water to the Argentineans to cool down twice. I drove at a nice pace but calmly and without taking any risks. I didn´t want to damage the car if I could not see where the tires would go into, and when it was clear, I went fast. We had huge stones and dust and I knew that there was no assistance at less than 6 hours behind us, so I wanted to make sure we could finish. I don´t care of the result, I want to finish my Dakar and make my dream come true!”

 

Eugenio Amos/Rafael Tornabell N.371 (52 in 8h32’15): « We drove calmly to preserve the RZR and make sure we can finish. We have played guardian angels for the Brazilian team that didn´t sleep the night before. We helped them changing a tire, and I enjoyed it!”

 

 

Michele Cinotto/Mauricio Dominella N.389: “Everything has worked well until km 50 before the finish line where we had an electrical problem that made us waste 2h30! At the same time, our GPS stopped working and we got lost at the bridge and lost some precious minutes… so it was a day to forget!”

 

The Brazilian team Leandro Torres/Roldan Lourival N.367 arrived to the La Rioja bivouac at 8 am this morning. The crew took the start at 8:15, after spending the night repairing with Marco Piana, who provides fast assistance service. Needless to say that Leandro and Lourival are very tired, but happy to be there!
