5e Spéciale : Qasr Al Sarab

Liaison : 7,80 km – Spéciale : 244,77 km – Liaison : 107,30 km – Total : 359,87 km

 

 

 

La dernière spéciale de l’Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, longue de 244 km, repartait de Qasr Al Sarab pour revenir vers la Marina de Yas Island à Abu Dhabi. Chaleur, peu de dunes et beaucoup de lignes droites fut le menu du jour. Une spéciale peu intéressante qu’Alle Fogliani et son père, Pietro, ont gérée avec intelligence pour franchir l’arrivée, 15es au général.

Malheureusement, Dame malchance s’est acharnée sur Jes Munk et Sébastien Delaunay qui ont cassé un joint de culasse au km 17 de la spéciale. Mais, dans son malheur, l’équipage Franco-Danois eut de la veine car la casse mécanique s’est produite sur une partie d’asphalte. Ils purent être dépannés et tractés jusqu’à Abu Dhabi afin de terminer le rallye, classés 25es.

 

Alle et Pietro Fogliani n°348 – 15es au général : « J’ai roulé tranquillement, raconte le jeune Italien de 19 ans à la fin du Rallye. La spéciale était toute droite et pas très belle avec vraiment très peu de dunes. C’est ma première course en Rallye Tout Terrain et j’ai trouvé cette discipline vraiment belle, cela m’a beaucoup plu. J’ai juste regretté qu’il n’y ait pas plus de sable, avec le RZR, c’est un régal de franchir les dunes, c’est très amusant. »

 

Jes Munk / Sébastien Delaunay n°347 – 25es au général: « Et bien soyons positif, s’exclame l’ancien motard danois en riant, au moins je ne serai pas tombé cette fois-ci ! C’est dommage de n’avoir pu faire la dernière spéciale mais sincèrement, nous avons eu beaucoup de chance de casser sur l’asphalte, dans une DZ (Limitation de vitesse), juste avant de repartir dans le sable. Si cela nous était arrivé plus loin, dans les dunes, on y serait encore. Au moins, nous avons pu être aidés, nous avons franchi la ligne d’arrivée et nous sommes montés sur le podium ! Maintenant, nous allons aller boire un verre bien mérité avec toute l’équipe. C’est un super team, les mécaniciens sont fantastiques, ils ont fait du très bon travail et ont un bel esprit sportif. Ils m’ont, tous les jours, donné de précieux conseils, tout comme Seb qui est un précieux copilote. C’est une belle équipe et je me suis vraiment amusé avec eux et avec le RZR, tout spécialement dans les dunes. »

Stage 5: Qasr Al Sarab

Road connection: 7.8 km – Special Stage: 244.77 km – Road Connection: 107.3 km – Total: 359.87 km

 

 

 

The last special stage of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge was composed of 244 km from Qasr Al Sarab to the Yas Island Marina in Abu Dhabi. Extremely hot weather, a few dunes and lots of straight lines were the menu of the day. A uninteresting special stage that Alle Fogliani and his father managed smartly and crossed the finish line taking the 15th place overall.

Unfortunately, Jes Munk and Sebastian Delaunay were not as lucky and they broke the cylinder head gasket at kilometer 17 of the special stage. The Danish/French crew had a struck of mechanic luck because the breakdown occurred in the asphalt. They were able to be pulled to Abu Dhabi so that they could finish the rally in the 25th position.

Alle and Pietro Fogliani N°348 – 15th overall: “I drove calmly, the special stage was all straight, just a few dunes. This was my first race and I think that cross country is a beautiful discipline, I enjoyed it. I only regret that there was not enough sand, with the RZR, it is such a pleasure to cross the dunes and it´s fun”, says the 19 years old Italian driver.

Jes Munk / Sebastian Delaunay N°347 -25th overall: “So, let’s be positive,” says the former bike rider, “At list I didn’t make a mistake this time. “It’s a pity not to be able to do the last special stage, but honestly we were lucky because the breakdown happened on asphalt, in a limited speed area, right before going back to the sand. If that would have happened further, then we would still be in the dunes. At least, we were able to get help and we went through the podium! Now we are going to grab a well-deserved drink with the team. The mechanics are fantastic, great sportsmanship among them, they did a great job! They gave me great advice every day, just like Seb an outstanding co-driver. It´s a nice team and I had fun with them and with the RZR, especially in the dunes!”
